Washington D.C. – President Trump sent out a tweet on July 4th declaring America had gained it’s independence from Great Britain today, stating, “I’ll be signing an executive order very soon proclaiming July 4th as an American Holiday and day of independence!” While it was unclear as to the confusion surrounding a brief given to the president declaring the US had gained its independence today, July 4th 2020, the president sent out another tweet only 20 minutes later claiming the fault lay with the intelligence agencies who give him his daily briefings and hinted at possible turnover at the head of the DIA and CIA over the error. When we reached out to the White House for a response, a spokesperson replied with, “I don’t know, man. I just work here. I’m living each day minute to minute, tweet to tweet.” While today is technically America’s Independence Day, we remind our readers that the United States declared its independence in 1776, not in 2020.
